Dispatch: What Creatives Get Wrong About Generative AI's Rise; New Podcast Interview Responses
Responses to podcast collaborations & how creatives are getting AI badly wrong
Hello Friends,
I hope you had a great week?
So this week I’ve focussed on one particular issue: Do creatives really understand the potential for AI to disrupt their industry?
I’ve worked with many creatives, and in fact I’ve trained in the arts as well as the sciences, so I feel I have a good understanding of the creative mindset.
One thing that worries me is I see many creatives assume they know what AI can do, and what it can’t do - and that this won’t change much going forward. Many creatives also seem absolutely confident in the belief of the inherent superiority of human beings over AI for creative work.
Unfortunately, I feel many creatives have not fully understood or appreciated the vast potential of AI to develop, which is unconstrained by any creatives beliefs about what AI can or cannot do, as many recent developments in AI show.
You’ll find a preview for the article below, and you can read the full article in the link provided also below.
Finally, I’d like to say thanks for those that responded to my call for podcast interviews!
As I mentioned last week, I’m planning a new series of podcast interviews, with people from all walks of life. No, I’m not looking for AI experts (thats me!) I am looking for people from different walks of life and professions, who have been thinking about AI could impact their profession or personal life in some way.
I really want to understand how different people are thinking about how AI will impact them. This could also be an opportunity to promote your own business or service as I’ll be happy to provide links to you in any podcast episode we do together.
I’m pleased to say as a result of last weeks newsletter, I’m in discussions with several people about potential podcast interview episodes. They come from very different and diverse backgrounds and professions, and I’m excited and looking forward to work with them going forward.
Could this be potential interest to you too? If so, I’d love to hear your thoughts and ideas, please feel free to direct message me using the button below.
Wishing you a great week,
Take care,
Pranath
The Uncomfortable Truth About AI Creativity: What Creatives Refuse to See
What Creatives Get Wrong About Generative AI's Rise
Can AI be truly creative? Many creatives dismiss this notion, confident that human creativity will always reign supreme. However, a recent study showed that AI outperformed humans on standard creativity tests. While the researchers cautioned against inferring too much from these results, they did highlight how AI capabilities are rapidly advancing - often in ways we fail to anticipate.
Many creatives make the mistake of assuming AI will only improve incrementally, failing to grasp its exponential growth trajectory. They cling to beliefs about human uniqueness and creativity being superior, without objective evidence to back up these claims. This I believe stems from an over-reliance on feelings, common in creatives as a basis for understanding the world, rather than evidence and reason.
However, recent history has shown that human skills once thought to require ineffable qualities like creativity and intelligence might be replicated by machines more and more as our technology evolves. A linear view of technological progress prevents us from recognising that AI has no inherent limits on what it may achieve.
The uncomfortable truth that many creatives refuse to see is that we cannot predict or control the future trajectory of the powerful exponential technology of AI. Rather than making blind assertions about the superiority of human creativity, an open mindset that acknowledges our uncertainty is crucial to help us best prepare for the future. Clinging to subjective feelings over objective reasoning leaves us ill-prepared for a future with AI we have no way to accurately predict or control.
What’s your perspective on the issues raised this week?
I’d love to know what you think whatever that is, let me know in the comments and let’s continue this important discussion about how AI is impacting society.
